Why a wooden house?

Energy efficiency, sustainability, the need for living in a healthy and natural environment make our products and services gain in popularity. Importantly, wood that we use in our manufacturing processes is certified and originates from Scandinavia: this means reliability and guaranteed quality.

Here are the 5 reasons why build wooden houses:

1. Wood is a natural renewable material:

Unlike other construction materials, wood is a renewable resource. Wood resources can be restored in a relatively rapid process, with a span practically comparable to that of human life, as regards some species Another remarkable advantage: the raw material is obtained in a natural biological process of photosynthesis and requires no expenditure of energy that would impose a burden on the environment. Fact: 0.8 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions is absorbed by each cubic metre of wood used in the building industry: if 20 cubic metres of wood are used to build a house, carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by 16 tonnes. That amount of carbon dioxide is generated by a car at a distance of 90,000 km. The use of wood in the building industry, even as a timber frame of a house, has a real desirable effect on climate changes.

2. Excellent thermal insulation

Wood is an excellent heat insulator. Examples: glass conducts heat 23 times faster than wood, marble – 90 times faster, steel – 1650 times faster, and aluminium – 7000 times faster. The result is a reduced energy consumption caused by heat “escaping” from the house; consequently, rapid cooling in wooden houses is not observed in the heating season. To retain heat (or cold during heats) in the house, and thus reduce the costs of energy used to heat (or cool), choose wood as an excellent alternative to brick, concrete or stone, and a perfect insulating material. To summarize, the use of wood structures results in savings on electricity bills.

3. Rapid construction process = saved money

The manufacture of a wooden house brings savings of time and labour compared to brick, stone or concrete This is particularly important under adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain, snow and icing, when construction from wood can be continued without problems. The construction of a wooden house from prefabricated components takes about 3-4 months. The reason is its “dry” technology with wet masonry work limited to foundations (no interruption in the process). The houses can be occupied as soon as they are built. The short assembly process entails reduced expenses on construction.

4. Reconstruct and upgrade easily

Houses with a timber frame are suitable for modification during and after the construction process. The variety of wood types gives a wide range of interior finishing options. Importantly, wood can easily be machined and for this reason is appreciated as one of the most advanced materials nowadays. Those factors: ease, versatility and moderate costs, make wooden houses popular and inexpensive to maintain.

Insulated concrete houses are expensive, demanding and time-consuming during construction and later reconstruction.

5. Health of occupants

Wood has a favourable effect on health of people occupying rooms constructed from that material. This results among others from secreted essential oils that have an excellent effect on the respiratory tract and bodily recovery. Wooden houses create a specific micro-climate, ensuring an optimum balance of moisture, unavailable in houses from masonry materials. An optimum air humidity balance falls within the range 45-57%. That parameter determines the growth of fungi, mould and various types of microbes in rooms. Wood is a “breathing” construction material. This results from its capillary structure, formed by fibres organized along the trunk. They create a continuous air flow and thermal insulation. The structure releases accumulated water in the dry season and absorb excessive water in the wet season, ensuring dry air and pleasant warmth.

Those conditions favourably affect the health and mood of occupants, as demonstrated by Scandinavians and Canadians who prefer wooden houses. Statistically, they live longer and belong to the healthiest societies.

Thus, wood is regarded as a product healthier than metals, plastic or other materials.

Nothing is healthier than a wooden house! Not only for its occupants but also for our climate!
